Defining the Classic African Experience

Magical Sights SafarisAll business for Magical Sights Safaris has been transferred to Classic Journeys Africa

Photographic Safaris

Photographic Safaris or Photo Safari Tours, if you prefer, are essentially the same as tailor-made/custom safaris, except that the number of people in any vehicle is limited to 4 to allow space for photographic equipment including a tripod, although for most, bean bags are a better choice, and the driver/guides have specific experience in photo safaris and will help to get you into the right spot for the right shot. Professional videographers, TV and film crews have specialist requirements, please enquire.

Each Safari’s price depends upon the transport type(s), duration, time of year, accommodation, parks / locations visited and the number of people involved.

For example, in Kenya you can decide whether to travel by minibus, which is the most popular, or by 4x4 Land Cruiser/Land Rover. Both types of vehicle hold the same number of people, but the minibus has a lower associated cost.

Whilst a minibus can go to most places, in some areas a 4x4 is essential, such as the swamp area of the Maasai Mara or in the wilderness areas of Tsavo. In Tanzania a 4x4 is the norm, as you cannot enter the Ngorongoro Crater without one.

If you fly between parks, the norm is to use the 4x4 vehicles belonging to the lodge or camp you are staying at. Unfortunately, for small groups or individuals, this means that you are likely to share a vehicle with others for game drives. Some lodges/camps allow you to have a private vehicle, but at a premium. Depending upon your length of stay, you can be met by a vehicle of your own, which you can use for game drives, but some fly-in lodges/camps do not allow this at all, or only allow green vehicles. We can help with your specific requirements, simply include them in your request to us.

Photo safari tours are available for all skill levels, from beginner to professional, and our experienced photo safari drivers will do their best to get you into the right place for the shot you want.
